A bill raising taxes and fees $85 million was heavily amended in the last few days of the South Dakota legislative session. The extra money will be used for road and bridge repair. Representative Jim Bolin of Canton says some of the fees did stay the same.
The original bill had a two cent per year increase in gas taxes. Bolin says representatives decided to speed that up.
Due to the emergency clause, the bill is now in effect, and will collect about $20 million by July 1st.
