Tax reform and efforts to expand the meat processing sector are making good progress in the Nebraska Unicameral. Yesterday Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts announced the need for the Legislature to take action during this session to provide tax relief to Nebraskans. Johnathan Hladik with the Center for Rural Affairs says currently the attention has turned to income tax reform but that doesn’t lessen the emphasis on property tax relief.
He says there has already been some early efforts to put a floor under recently achieved property tax relief, but legislators are taking a wait and see approach.
Hladik has been encouraged with the support demonstrated in last week’s hearing on LB 755 which would help bump out small and medium sized meat processing in the state.
He says LB 755 would establish $10 million of funding for meat processing infrastructure and education.
