The prices for crop protection products in 2020 are likely to be higher than 2019 as a result of tariffs associated with the China trade war. Mary Kay Thatcher is Senior Lead of Federal Government Relations for Syngenta. She says even though farmers dodged one bullet when the December 15 tariffs did not go into effect on China imports, there are still tariffs in place that will impact input prices.
She says because of the record prevented plant acres in the United States in 2019 there are still carryover herbicide and pesticide products that farmers can buy at a lower cost.
Thatcher says despite the disastrous crop season in 2019, product sales for 2020 are picking up in many areas.
She says the one exception is in the far northern states where farmers may see repeat prevented plant acres in 2020 and some have crop yet to harvest.
