The Joint Committee on Appropriations of the South Dakota legislature got an update on the SB55 task force at their meeting Friday in Pierre. The SB55 task force is looking at the operations of the Board of Regents and the six state universities, looking for operational efficiencies.
Committee Co-Chair and task force member, Representative Chris Karr of Sioux Falls, said they expect to wrap up the study this summer…

A question was raised if closing one of the six universities should be part of the study. Senator Ryan Maher of Isabel says that could be decided in the next few years…

Karr says all options should eventually be part of the discussion….

The University of South Dakota at Springfield was closed in 1984.
