This week Taiwanese officials signed a letter of intent to purchase $3.03 billion worth of wheat, corn, corn co products and soybeans by 2017. North Dakota Wheat Commission marketing specialist Erica Olson says Taiwan has been a good customer of both U.S. and North Dakota spring wheat. She says this commitment will help wheat growers across the country.
She says exports are critical for North Dakota’s wheat growers. And the timing of the announcement is good in that North Dakota growers are currently harvesting what looks to be a record spring wheat crop.
Olson says other important export markets for North Dakota spring wheat includes Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam.
