Pork Industry officials in the United States have already voiced concern this week not only on the current shortage of ag labor but on enhanced levels of that shortage with the coronavirus outbreak and spread. Besides workers on pork operations, there are other potential effects according to SDSU Extension Swine Specialist Dr. Bob Thaler including pork exports.

He says feed mill workers and truckers shipping hogs could also be impacted by the Covid-19 outbreak.

Thaler says while feed mill workers may be affected, there won’t likely be a shortage of feed.

Thaler says he’s also heard from a pork producer in China who’s been unable to get soybean meal to feed his animals as exports have been impacted by the coronavirus.
