A virus that causes blisters on swine that looks similar to FMD is popping up again in the northwestern corn belt. Minnesota Pork Executive Director Dave Preisler says Seneca Virus first showed up in the United States in 2002 and has recently re-emerged in the region.

Preisler says Seneca virus is easy to identify and its critical producers check their herds for symptoms.

He says if you see the virus, notify your veterinarian immediately.

Preisler says producers can go on line at swinehealth.org and get regular updates on Seneca virus as well as tips on what disinfectants to use.
