SUSPECT IDENTIFIED IN YANKTON OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING

A Watertown man is now facing charges as a result of the officer involved shooting that occurred last night at Yankton High School.

According to a news release from the South Dakota Attorney General, in conjunction with the Yankton County State’s Attorney, 40 year-old Andrew Jondahl, of Watertown, was the one injured in the shooting. Jondahl remains hospitalized after the incident. There were no other injuries.

The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation will continue to process the crime scene, conducting a forensic examination of all collected evidence, along with interviewing officers and witnesses, and reviewing all video cameras from the area.

A full summary of the incident is expected within 30 days.

The Yankton County Sheriff’s Office is assisting in the investigation. The Yankton Police Department is cooperating with the investigation.

The Attorney General says this is the fifth Officer Involved Shooting in South Dakota during 2024. There were eight Officer Involved Shootings in 2023.
