According to a just released survey done by the SCN Coalition, soybean cyst nematode has been spreading throughout the United States and Canada. The group does its survey every 3 to 5 years. SCN Coalition co-leader and Iowa State University Extension Nematologist Greg Tylka says SCN has spread widely since 2017.
He says SCN is spread due to the fact there aren’t any resistant soybean varieties in North Dakota and because it’s being driven by wind blown soil.
Tylka says soybean cyst nematode causes a lot of damage that can be costly.
Tylka says another reasons there’s been more detection of SCN is that his coalition has been encouraging producers to do more sample testing. He says one way to try and get a handle on SCN is by properly rotating crops.
