Support is mixed for Nebraska Governor Pete Rickett’s legislative proposal, LB 338. The measure calls for changing how ag land valuations are figured from being based on market prices to an income capitalization formula. Some farm groups including Nebraska Farm Bureau say it doesn’t do enough to lower property taxes. However, Bloomfield area farmer Shane Greckel, who’s a Farm Bureau member, says he backs LB 338.
Greckel agrees with Nebraska Farm Bureau that just lowering property taxes won’t solve the problems facing farmers and ranchers. He says a long term fix is needed.
Greckel says rural Nebraska will be hurt if the solution legislators settle on it to just lower taxes.
Greckel says LB 338 is a good initial step and will provide a more fair and stable system.
