Support continues to grow for the new $55 million precision agriculture building at South Dakota State University. President Barry Dunn says they have good buy in from the university and private sector. The next key will be approval of nearly $31 million in funding by the South Dakota legislature.

He says the funding mechanism being considered by state lawmakers is the same one that was used for the Animal Disease Research and Diagnostic Lab.

Dunn says the SDSU facilities currently being used for precision ag teaching and research, including Ag Hall, are far from cutting edge.

SDSU currently has the only precision agriculture major in the country. Those graduates are in high demand by the companies assisting the farmers using this technology to improve yields and the environment.
