Governor Dennis Daugaard is proposing a two percent increase for state aid to education in the budget that begins next July first. State law mandates an increase of one point five percent.

Dr. Dan Swartos, Superintendent at McCook Central in Salem says they appreciate the extra half percent…

Swartos says the increase, of about ninety seven dollars per student, gets them past the funding level of 2010…

State aid was cut almost ten percent in 2011.

Swartos says the only way to pay teachers more is to make sure their revenue side continues to grow…

Lawmakers will have a number of other funding proposals to debate during the session.
