The Summit League Basketball Championships continued its remarkable success with new attendance marks for men’s tournament and single session.

The men’s tournament drew a record 39,912 fans, topping the previous total of 36,661 set last season. An average of 9,978 attended Summit League Men’s Tournament sessions.

The March 6 men’s semifinals featuring South Dakota vs. South Dakota State and Omaha vs. IUPUI was the highest attended session in Summit League history with 11,235 fans.

Combined men’s and women’s tournament totals reached 61,004, ranking second all-time.

The league’s women’s tournament finished second all-time in total attendance with 21,092 over its four sessions. The second quarterfinal session, held March 5, drew 9,419 fans, second highest for a quarterfinal round.

The inaugural Summit Fan Fest, featuring interactive games, pep rallies and additional fan activities drew approximately 4,000 fans over two days.

“Each year our tournament gets better and better, and this season we took yet another step,” said Summit League Commissioner Tom Douple. “Not only did we set men’s tournament and single-session records, we added another element with our Fan Fest. To draw over 60,000 fans to our tournament and to bring in approximately 4,000 for our inaugural fan fest is a unique achievement at our level.”
