The 2022 Summit League individual women’s soccer awards were spread out among three teams as those honors along with the all-league and all-newcomer teams were announced Thursday by league officials.

South Dakota State’s Maya Hansen was named the Offensive Player of the Year as she led the Jackrabbits to an unbeaten regular season. Her squad enters the postseason as the lone unbeaten team in all of Division I women’s soccer. The Savage, Minn., native registered a league-leading six goals in League play and league-best 11 goals overall.

Hansen’s 39 career goals are tied for the second most in #SummitWSOC history and her 96 career points is third on the all-time league charts. She also leads the league with five game-winning goals, which is tied for the sixth most in the nation, while her 27 points overall is tied for 13th in the nation.

Fellow Jackrabbit Jocelyn Tanner was named the Goalkeeper of the Year for the second straight season after logging a league-best .917 save percentage in league play. She only allowed one goal in nine league matches and helped the SDSU program garner a combined 11 shutouts overall.

For the regular season champion Pioneers, fifth-year senior Sami Feller was named the Midfielder of the Year as she climbed the #SummitWSOC career charts in total points, where she now ranks second with 100 career points — a total that is fifth best in DU history. The Grand Junction, Colo., native is tied for second in the league in both total assists (6) and points (18), ranks second in points per game (1.13) and is tied for sixth in goals (6).

Fellow fifth-year senior Devan McSwain of DU was named the Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season as she helped a Pioneer defensive unit that held Summit League opposition to just four goals in nine league matches and six shutouts in those league matches.

The general of the Pioneers, Jeff Hooker, was named the Coach of the Year for the fifth time in his career. This year’s squad finished the campaign 11-4-3 and went unbeaten in Summit League play for the fourth time since joining the conference. He picked up his second consecutive COY honor after DU posted an 8-0-1 mark for the second straight campaign.

St. Thomas sophomore Mariah Nguyen was named the Newcomer of the Year. The Bemidji State transfer appeared in all nine Summit League matches for the Tommies and leads the team in goals (5), points (14), shots on goal (14). She tied for eighth in League play with eight points.

Ten of the 11 all-league first team honorees came from three teams that advanced to the 2022 Championship. The second-seeded Jackrabbits paced all teams with 10 total all-league selections, including five on the first team. Hansen earned a first team nod for the third straight year and has earned all-league accolades after all four of her collegiate seasons, while Tanner collected her second straight first-team nod.

Senior midfielder Karlee Manding, who was named to the second team in 2019, earned first team honors this time, while sophomore midfielder Laney Murdzek and junior defender Kaycee Manding joined the quintet on the first team.

Feller was one of four Pioneers to earn first-team honors as the midfielder has now earned All-League first team accolades in each of her five seasons at Denver. Kaitlyn Glover earned the third all-league honor of her career, while fellow McSwain, now a three-time all-league honoree, and Camryn MacMillan a two-time all-league recipient, made up the second half of the Pioneers’ quartet on the first team.

Rounding out the first teamers were Western Illinois forward Amy Andrews, who earned her second first-team nod and third overall and defender Regan Zimmers from Omaha. Andrews finished her career ranked seventh on the Summit League all-time charts with 34 careers goals after netting eight in 2022.

Four more members of the Denver team were named to the All-League second team, giving the Pioneers the most honorees on that squad. For the second time in her career, goalkeeper Nerea Arrazola earned an all-league honor, this time second team honors, while defenders Riley Baker and Jordan Crockett along with forward Addisyn Hyrup earned their first accolades.

The three Jackrabbits on the second team were midfielder Avery Murdzek, a two-time second team honoree, midfielder Reagan Anderson and defender Hayley Lindaman. They were joined by repeat honoree Grace Ostergaard of Omaha and first-time honorees in goalkeeper Madi Livingston and forward Hannah Olson, both of North Dakota. North Dakota State forward Paige Goaley rounded out the second team.

The group of players earning an honorable mention were highlighted by a trio of Golden Eagles as defender Gabrielle Abbey, midfielder Samantha Guzman and forward Julia Thasaphong helped ORU earn the program’s most wins in a season (9) since 2017. Jackrabbit seniors Rachel Preston and Cece Limongi earned an honorable mention as well.

South Dakota defender Taylor Ravelo, St. Thomas goalkeeper Annie Banter, Denver defender Hannah Gallegos, Kansas City defender Sophia Limongi, Omaha defender Jordyn West and North Dakota State goalkeeper Abby Wilkinson rounded out those earning an honorable mention.

Thasaphong earned a spot on the all-newcomer team and was joined by fellow Golden Eagles Ariana Fresquez and Abril Lucio to give ORU a league-high three members on the squad.
