Post season soccer awards from the Summit League included Offensive Player of the Year and Coach of the Year honors for South Dakota State Jackrabbits.
The league’s top honors went to South Dakota State’s Diana Potterveld as Offensive Player of the Year and Omaha’s Hannah Wampler as Defensive Player of the Year. North Dakota State’s Sierra Bonham won the Goalkeeper of the Year award, while IUPUI’s Krissy Kirkhoff was named Freshman of the Year. South Dakota State’s Lang Wedemeyer was named Coach of the Year for the second-straight season.
Potterveld collects the Offensive Player of the Year award after leading the league with 11 assists, six coming in league play, and collecting six goals and 23 points this season. Her 11 assists broke the South Dakota State single-season record and are tied for second in league history. A two-time Offensive Player of the Week, Potterveld has started all 17 games and has connected on one game-winning goal this year. The junior forward recently earned Capital One Academic All-District First Team honors.
Wampler is the Defensive Player of the Year and becomes the first Omaha player to earn one of the league’s top individual awards. She helped anchor a defensive backline that surrendered just nine league goals and had three Summit League shutouts. The junior collected four goals this season, two converted via penalty kick, for eight points. Wampler earns back-to-back all-league honors after earning a second team nod last season.
Bonham collects Goalkeeper of the Year honors after recording a league-best 0.88 goals against average on the year. Against league opposition, she lowered that number to 0.71 with 41 saves. She has an .872 save percentage entering tournament play and registered four league shutouts while collecting a pair of Defensive Player of the Week honors this season. The junior earned her third all-league team selection.
Kirkhoff captures the Freshman of the Year award after leading IUPUI with nine goals this season, five of which came against league competition. A three-time Offensive Player of the Week selection, she has a total of 19 points on the year, which is tied for third in the league. Her three league game-winning goals were tops in The Summit League while she has collected four total on the year. Kirkhoff is the fourth Jaguar to earn Freshman/Newcomer of the Year honors.
Wedemeyer earns his second consecutive Coach of the Year award after guiding South Dakota State to its fourth regular season title since 2008. The Jackrabbits finished league play with a 5-2-1 record and 16 points to claim their third No. 1 tournament seed in program history.
