Suicide awareness is back in the headlines after fashion designer Kate Spade took her own life earlier this week. Spade had suffered from depression and anxiety and family members say she also had a bipolar disorder. University of Nebraska Medical Center Psychologist Dr. Jonathan Sikorski says both those issues are typically caused by a chemical imbalance. However, no one is immune to suicide.
Sikorski says symptoms can develop over time.
He says if you believe a friend or family member is at risk you should sit down with them and have a talk.
