Study Shows Vegans Returning To Meat

A study commissioned by the Humane Research Council and conducted by Harris Interactive shows that most who adopt a vegetarian or vegan diet wind up abandoning it. Janet Riley with the American Meat Institute says the study was quite telling showing that most end up returning to eating meat.
Riley also says that balanced diets that include meat and poultry are the best option for good nutrition and for weight control because meat controls hunger. She adds their own study reveals the importance of meat to a nutritious and balanced diet.
Riley says that iron is absorbed most readily from meat protein. She says although spinach has a lot of iron, it’s not the type of iron that’s absorbed by the body at a high rate. Because of that one has to eat a lot of spinach to match what you’d get from eating meat.
