A study conducted by USDA’s Agricultural Research Service, the University of Arkansas and the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association confirms the U.S. beef industry in the most sustainable in the world. NCBA President-Elect and Minnesota Cattle Producer Don Schiefelbein says cattle producers have been very environmentally responsible for some time.

The study notes that between the 1960s and 2018, America’s cattle producers reduced the carbon footprint of the industry by 40 percent while producing 66 percent more beef. Scheifelbein says this is a positive message they can and are taking to the Biden Administration.

He says the U.S. has been a global leader with the lowest emissions intensity in the world for the past 25 years producing just 2 percent of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions.

The study looked at livestock lifecycle assessments from across the world to reach its conclusions.
