IHS Markit, a business and financial consulting company, has released an analysis showing the three states most vulnerable to ag trade retaliation from China. They include Iowa, South Dakota and Nebraska. Iowa Soybean Association President Bill Shipley says he is concerned because two of Iowa’s largest commodities include pork, which has been hit by 25-percent tariffs, and soybeans which are next on the retaliation list.
He recently traveled to China and spoke with many of their residents. Shipley says they don’t like the trade war that’s emerged.
Shipley says the President’s attempts to have the USDA provide trade compensation to farmers isn’t the answer.
