A Life Cycle Associates study sponsored by the Renewable Fuels Association shows a significant amount of greenhouse gas emissions reduction from the renewable fuel standard. RFA Senior Vice President Geoff Cooper says carbon reductions due to RFS2 for the past seven years have been larger than what the EPA expected.
Cooper says biofuels has had a huge effect on reduced greenhouse gas emissions
since 2008.
He says improvements in corn ethanol technology along with more emissions from petroleum have had an effect on carbon emission releases.
Cooper says the estimated 354 million metric tons of avoided CO 2 emissions is equivalent to the annual emissions from 74 million passenger cars or 1.9 million railcars of coal burned.
