Record ethanol and biodiesel production in Iowa in 2016 had significant impacts on the state’s economy. Renewable fuels in Iowa supported more than 42,000 jobs in the state and generated about $2.3billion in household income for Iowans. The study was conducted by ABF economics and authored by John Urbanchuk. He says because Iowa’s ethanol and biodiesel is produced in the state, it’s economic impacts to the state’s economy are even more important.

He says the amount of ethanol that was exported from Iowa to other countries also helped the state’s economy.

Urbanchuk says while ethanol production expanded in Iowa in 2016 over past years, biodiesel expansion was even greater.

The ABF study was commissioned by the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association.
