A new study shows the fertilizer sector contributed more than $162 billion and more than 500,000 jobs to the U.S. economy in 2014. It was conducted by The Fertilizer Institute. Vice President of Public Affairs Kathy Mathers says it’s the first time they’ve conducted this type of study that quantifies the fertilizer industry’s contribution to the overall economy.

She’s hoping they can use this information to advance public policy that will benefit the fertilizer industry.

Mathers says their study also indicates how important the fertilizer sector was to the overall agricultural economy in 2014.

Mathers says they are concerned with the downturn in the farm economy as its tied directly to their business.
