The Nebraska Legislatures LR 601 Special Committee announced the findings of their report on a study that focused on the need for a regional, accredited forensic crime lab. Committee Chairman, Omaha Senator Robert Hilkemann the study was to determine the needs for developing a lab and examine the feasibility of the state’s involvement.

Hilkemann says their goal was to look at the needs and the options for developing a crime lab.

Hilkemann says locating the center at the University of Nebraska Medical Center would meet three primary ideals, independence from current labs run by law enforcement, a full array of services in a single location and accreditation.
