Student Dies In Mitchell Fire

An eighteen year old student at Mitchell Technical Institute died this morning in a house fire in Mitchell. Tylor Kostrzewski was unable to escape the fire that gutted the three story home at 515 West Third Avenue.

Public Safety Chief Lyndon Overweg says Kostrzewski was from Kimball. An autopsy is planned. Fiver other occupants escaped however two were taken to Avera Queen of Peace Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and burns.

Assistant Fire Chief Paul Morris says the investigation into the cause of the fire is underway…

 

Morris says the fire appeared to have started toward the front of the three-story house…

 

The State Division of Criminal Investigation is now in charge of the scene.

The 500 block of West Third is now open to traffic.
