The Missouri Valley Football Conference weekly football awards include South Dakota quarterback Chris Streveler this week.
Newcomer
QB Chris Streveler, South Dakota
6-2, 220, Jr., Crystal Lake (Ill.) Marian Central Catholic / Minnesota
Streveler accounted for 475 yards of total offense and three touchdowns against No. 15 Western Illinois Saturday inside the DakotaDome. He completed 29 of 40 passes for a career-high 373 yards, becoming the program’s first 300-yard passer since 2013, and ran 21 times for 102 yards for his fourth 100-yard effort this season. Streveler threw touchdowns of 20 yards to Trystn Ducker and seven yards to Dakarai Allen. His 1-yard touchdown run gave USD its largest lead at 31-14 just before halftime.
Offense
QB Brodie Lambert, Missouri State
6-1, 211, Sr., Arlington (Texas) James Martin High
Lambert posted career highs for total offense (390), completions (25), passing yards (339) and rushing yards (51) while tossing four touchdown passes to lead MSU to a 38-35 comeback win over Southern Illinois. Lambert threw for three TDs in the second half, helping the Bears rally from a 14-point deficit. He ripped off a career-long 46-yard rush to set up a touchdown, then tied the game with a 36-yard scoring strike to Zac Hoover with just over three minutes remaining in regulation. Lambert’s 390 yards of offense represent the sixth-best single-game total in school history, and his 76-yard TD pass to Hoover is the Bears’ longest under head coach Dave Steckel.
Defense
FS Tre Dempsey, North Dakota State
5-10, 179, Jr., Lakeland (Fla.) Lakeland
Dempsey intercepted two passes including one on the final drive of the game to clinch North Dakota State’s 24-20 road win over Northern Iowa. His interception on the second play of the third quarter stopped a drive after UNI ended the first half with a field goal. Dempsey had four tackles, one for a loss, and made a pass breakup in the end zone. He is one of eight players in the FCS with at least five interceptions this season.
Special Teams
WR/PR Darien Townsend, Youngstown State
5-10, 170, Jr., Youngstown (Ohio) Christian
Townsend’s 79-yard punt return in the fourth quarter was the game-deciding score in the Penguins’ come-from-behind 13-10 victory over Indiana State. With around 9:30 remaining, Townsend caught a 62-yard punt by Indiana State’s Thomas Bouldin. He had two punt returns for 91 yards while catching two passes for 24 yards in the game.
