A new study shows that working long hours can increase your risk of stroke and heart disease. Dr. Pierre Fayad is the director of the Stroke Center at the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Department of Neurological Sciences and says this study shed light on how increased stress can impact the risk of stroke.
Fayad says the study results show that those who work 55 hours or more each week increase their risk of stroke by 33% and the risk of heart disease by 15%.
Fayad says there could be an association with longer work hours causing more stress, less exercise and smoking more but more research will need to be done to determine an outcome.
