Stolen Vehicle Leads To Multi-Car Crash And Fatality


HINTON, IA – One person is dead and five people were injured in a multi-vehicle accident in Hinton, IA Saturday afternoon.

The Plymouth County Sheriff says the accident happened at the intersection of Highway 75 and C-60 at the stoplight just after 1:30 pm when a Nissan Sentra speeding northbound through Hinton sideswiped an S-U-V stopped at the red light.  The Nissan then struck another car stopped at the light, then a third and fourth vehicle before coming to a stop in the middle of the intersection.

The male driver of the Nissan was taken to a medical facility where he was pronounced dead.

A passenger in the third vehicle was taken by ambulance to Orange City Healthcare with minor injuries.  Also four children in that same vehicle were treated at the scene.

The Nissan had been reported as stolen from Sioux City earlier on Saturday.

The deceased male driver has not been identified by authorities who are working with the state medical examiner to determine his identity.
