The South Dakota Agricultural Land Assessment Implementation and Oversight Advisory Task Force met earlier this week in Pierre. South Dakota Stockgrowers Association President Gary Deering who was at the meeting said that the study presented by SDSU Professor Dr. Matt Elliott was positive and matched his group’s stance on the ag land assessment issue.

He says determining ag land assessment should be based on actual and best use.

Deering says both proposals put forward by the task force seem to fit well with the Stockgrower’s Association stance on the issue and they’re reviewing those now with their Board of Directors.

One of the major findings of the SDSU study showed that alternative methods and additional data can be used to improve highest and best use measures and better predict most probable use of Ag land.
