Tuesday, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem signed Senate Bill 68 into law. The measure says a food product may not be labeled in a false, deceptive or misleading manner that intentionally misrepresents the product as a meat food product. South Dakota Stockgrowers Association President Gary Deering says his group is pleased the so called “Fake Meat” bill has now been signed., and that it’s be positive for producers and consumers.

He says with lab grown meats moving closer to market introduction it was important SB 68 get passed so there’s truth in labeling clearly delineating actual meat from alternative products.

Deering is hopeful this will lead to truth in labeling at the national level.

Deering says there was great support for SB 68 from legislators and a broad spectrum of agriculture groups.
