The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has announced it’s looking for public comment on potential revisions to agricultural commodity or livestock definitions in its Hours of Service Regulations. South Dakota Stockgrowers Executive Director James Halvorson says livestock haulers need some reasonable regulations and it’s critical producers weigh in with their comments.
He’s hoping regulators take into account the safe driving record of livestock haulers and remember that those hauling animals can’t just stop on a dime to adhere to hours of service rules.
Halvorson says it’s important that the FMCSA provides good flexibility for transporters in whatever final regulation they come up with.
The Hours of Service Comment period is now open.
