Another winter storm could bring up to two feet of snow and blizzard-like conditions to West River South Dakota. South Dakota Stockgrowers Association Executive Director James Halverson says that has many cattle producers who are calving on edge.

He’s hoping most cattle producers are able to prepare for the storm by providing some type of shelter for their animals, especially the younger ones.

Halverson says he’s concerned about what might happen to government assistance programs for livestock producers given the recent budget plan put out by the President. It would eliminate the Livestock Forage program and cut back support for Livestock Indemnity and other assistance programs.

Halverson has been speaking with Congressman Dusty Johnson’s staff about his concern and the need for those livestock programs.
