32 Senators including John Thune and Tim Johnson of South Dakota have signed onto a letter supporting Country of Origin Labeling laws. The new attack in the Senate comes through the appropriation’s process. South Dakota Stock Grower’s Executive Director Silvia Christen says there is an appropriations provision that would eliminate COOL.
Christen adds that although the battle over defending COOL continues, her group will keep fighting to keep it.
The U.S. has appealed an earlier WTO decision that ruled in favor of Canada and Mexico in declaring COOL trade distorting. All sides are awaiting a decision from the trade tribunal.
