The Senate voted 50 to 45 to confirm Tracy Stone Manning of Montana as the new Director of the Bureau of Land Management. The South Dakota Stock Grower’s Association has several concerns with that confirmation. Executive Director James Halverson says it’ll be a challenge to educate the new administrator on how well livestock producers manage those federal lands.

He says there’s a lot of BLM land in South Dakota that livestock producers are currently grazing their animals on.

Halverson says his group will work to educate Manning on how environmentally responsible South Dakota’s livestock producers are and the benefits they bring to public lands.

Ten Republicans on the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources shared their concerns with President Biden on Manning’s appointment and sent him a letter asking him to withdraw his nomination.
