Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney has introduced a companion measure in the House to South Dakota Senator Mike Round’s New Markets for State Inspected Meat and Poultry Act. South Dakota Stock Grower’s Association Executive Director James Halvorson is pleased Round’s measure is now getting support in the House as well as increased backing in the Senate.

He says because state inspected processors face pretty the much the same regulations USDA inspectors are under, it just makes sense to give them approval to sell their product across state lines.

Halverson says in the long run if Congress passes these bills, it will benefit producers, processors and consumers.

Recently Senator Rounds and his colleagues sent a letter to Senate leaders urging them to include the New Markets for State Inspected Meat Poultry Act in any future COVID 19 response efforts.
