A recent Executive Order issued by President Joe Biden seeks to address the price and competition problem in the U.S. cattle industry. Participating in one of the President’s outreach meeting on the Executive Order was South Dakota Stock grower’s Association Executive Director James Halverson. He was briefed on the order by the Deputy Director of the National Economic Council.

He says one of the positives coming out of the meeting was the Administration’s wish to work with Congress on helping fix the broken cattle markets and bring more competition in play.

Halverson says some of the more important goals coming out of the Executive Order is strengthening the Packers and Stockyards Act and improving enforcement of antitrust laws.

Halverson says one of the President’s major goals is to bolster competition within the meat packing industry.
