This week, South Dakota lawmakers decided to hold off on passing legislation to change how ag property is defined. The Senate Taxation Committee wants the legislature’s task force to further study the issue. South Dakota Stock Growers Association Executive Director Silvia Christen says while they’d like the problem settled, thinks it’s good lawmakers are taking a more in depth look at it.
Christen says it’s a difficult problem to solve especially in rural areas near Sioux Falls and Rapid City.

Christen says it’s good lawmakers are looking for the right answer to defining what is ag property and what isn’t. She says it’s better the summer study committee continue working on it than having legislators ram something through that could have unintended consequences.
