Members of the District 18 legislative delegation spoke to the Yankton School Board last (Monday) night. This meeting was in advance of the legislative session that starts January 14th.

Some board members are concerned with possible changes in the use of capital outlay funds.

Representative Mike Stevens says he didn’t think the use should have been expanded in the first place…

When the budget was cut in 2011, the legislature allowed school districts to expand the use of capital outlay funds to fill in gaps in their general funds.

Stevens says that was an easy fix at the time…

Stevens says there may be more moves to restrict the use of those funds…

Stevens says a task force appointed by the Governor is in the middle of a two year study of the use of capital outlay funds.
