Monday, Governor Pete Ricketts announced he’s chosen Syracuse area farmer Steve Wellman as Nebraska Agriculture Director. Wellman replaces Greg, who left to become a USDA Undersecretary. Ricketts says Wellman’s 35 years of experience as a Nebraska farmer, along with his trade knowledge and past leadership with the American Soybean Association, make him the right person for the position.
Wellman thanked the Governor for the honor and says he’s looking forward to the job.
Wellman says his initial goal is to build on the success of the State Ag Department started by Greg Ibach and Deputy Director Mat Habrock.
Wellman says he understands the economic and regulatory conditions farmers and ranchers face every day and wants to work with them and their organizations to grow the state’s agricultural economy.
