STC Officials Monitor Export Impact From Hurricanes

Soy Transportation Coalition officials are monitoring the movement and impacts of recent and future hurricanes for their impact on export movement. Coalition Executive Director Mike Steenhoek says while the Atlantic Coast isn’t the top export outlet for soybeans, there will be some effect from Hurricane Irma.

He says one of the concerns with all these hurricanes is the federal funding needed for disaster relief will take priority over monies needed later for an infrastructure bill.

Steenhoek says they’re also monitoring what happens if the storms hit the Gulf of Mexico and the lower Mississippi River near New Orleans.

He says in addition to 60-percent of the soybeans exported from the Gulf, 59 percent of the corn exports are also shipped from there.
