STC Executive Sees No Quick Fix To Solving China Port Closure

A port in China has been shuttered since August 11 due to a single case of COVID 19. For U.S. exporters, the problem is it’s the third largest port in China. Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director Mike Steenhoek says this shutdown is on the heels of several months of the overall supply chain being under stress.

He says there’s no quick fix to this problem.

The other export shipping problem is that the cost of shipping containers have risen dramatically and now it costs over $20,000 per 40 foot box. Steenhoek says it’s just a matter of competition causing this.

This latest port problem comes less than two months after a COVID 19 outbreak impacted ports in Southern China.
