Just ahead of the July 4th holiday, the U.S. House approved a $1.5 trillion dollar infrastructure bill. It includes fixes for roads and bridges, expansion of interstate railways and dredging of harbors, ports and channels. Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director Mike Steenhoek says Representatives are more concerned about achieving political wins rather than passing a good infrastructure measure.
He says the problem with this House bill is that it includes too many extras with funding for health care facilities, schools, public utilities and housing which makes it impossible to pass and get by both the Senate and the President who promises to veto it.
Steenhoek says getting a solid infrastructure bill passed is the shot in the arm that the overall economy needs.
Steenhoek says Congress is up against an important deadline September 30 when the highway bill must be approved.
