The Senate is continuing to debate a very large infrastructure bill. The good news is that agriculture is included in what they’re looking at. That’s according to Mike Steenhoek, Executive Director of the Soy Transportation Coalition. He says there’s $110 billion in the proposal for roads and bridges, $ 66 billion that includes rail and freight and also $17 billion for inland waterways.

He says it’s also positive the Senate and Administration is looking at more than one modes of transportation for the infrastructure package being looked at .

Steenhoek says the real challenge will be to find a way to pay for the infrastructure legislation. He says one area policymakers are looking at would be possibly using some unspent COVID relief funds.

He says whatever the Senate decides on will have to be put together with what the House supports. And Speaker Pelosi at this point wants a large measure that includes not only traditional infrastructure but also funding for social programs.
