President Elect Joe Biden has nominated Pete Buttigieg to be the next Secretary of Transportation. Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director Mike Steenhoek says it’s positive to have someone from the Midwest at that position who understands the need for national infrastructure improvements.

He says STC wants to see the incoming Transportation Secretary to focus on a comprehensive infrastructure policy that provides investments to help each link in the agricultural supply chain, rural roads and bridges, highways and interstates and freight railroads and ports.

Steenhoek says it’s critical following his inauguration that President Biden push forward a comprehensive infrastructure plan as that would be one way to advance a bipartisan policy bringing both parties together to benefit everyone.

Steenhoek says several states have rural roads and bridges that need repair or upgrading and those states are facing a budget shortfall for those projects due to the pandemic cutting back driving and collection of fuel taxes.
