STB to Meet on Freight Rail Rate Dispute Process

STB to Meet on Freight Rail Rate Dispute Process

The National Grain and Feed Association will be meeting with the Surface Transportation Board next month on an informal basis to make suggestions to improve the freight rail rate dispute process. Association President Randy Gordon says it’ll hopefully lead to a formal freight rail dispute proposal.

Gordon says the current method for resolving freight rail disputes is burdensome and costly. He says one suggestion his group has would change the methodology for filing a complaint with the STB if a freight rail rate is out of line.

Gordon says the informal talks with stakeholders STB is holding next month came about following legislation pushed forward last year by South Dakota Senator John Thune.

Interested stakeholders wanting to weigh in with the STB next month should contact the Rail Customer and Public Assistance Office to schedule individual meeting times.
