A group of 14 organizations from South and North Dakota, Iowa, and Illinois recently met to outline concerns about the Dakota Access Pipeline, planned to cross their states. Minnehaha County farmer, Peggy Hoogestrat is one of those opposing the project. She says they submitted their opposition to various state regulatory agencies.
Hoogestrat says the groups from the four states all share the same worries about environmental problems they see potentially existing because of this project.
She says they are concerned that Energy Transfer Partners, the group wanting to build the pipeline, can’t assure they’ll clean up any spills associated with the pipeline.
Hoogestrat says they intend to meet again in the future as the pipeline process plays out. A decision on whether it’s approved or not is expected sometime late this fall or winter.
