The 90th South Dakota State FFA Convention is underway in Brookings this week, with the State Star Pageant being held last night. The Star award is the highest the state association can give to members and is based on their Supervised Agricultural Experience project. State Star Farmer is Justus Gregg of the Winner FFA Chapter.
Star in AgriScience is Callie Mueller of the Florence FFA Chapter. Her agriscience project included testing the lung strength of farmers and a special area of equine research focusing on behavioral science.
This year’s Star Greenhand was Hadley Stiefvater of the McCook Central FFA Chapter. For a sophomore she has an extensive livestock SAE that includes beef, poultry, hogs and sheep. She says she enjoys FFA and the ability it provides to educate the public about the industry.
State Star in Ag Placement went to Travis Leber of the Parker FFA Chapter and State Star in Agribusiness was awarded to Miller FFA member Landon Sivertsen.
