State Senator Says If Medicaid Expansion Ballot Measure Passes It’ll Be Costly For The State

Nebraska groups are divided over whether or not to expand Medicaid through ballot initiative 427. Voters will decide Tuesday on that issue. State Senator Steve Erdman believes citizens should vote NO on the measure because if it passes it’ll eliminate services for those who need it and put an economic strain on the state’s budget.

He says the health care problem is really a national one that hasn’t been addressed.

Erdman says Nebraska is already offering 19 more Medicaid services than it’s required to. He says if the ballot measure is approved, many of those will be lost.

Erdman says the Nebraska budget for the next biennium is expected to be $ 232 million short of where they need to be. He says that means it’ll be difficult to find another $100 million for Medicaid expansion.
