Several agricultural groups say the major unfinished piece of business by the Nebraska State Legislature this session was passing property tax relief. Senator Steve Erdman says one of the ways talked about to address that was a possible special legislative session. However he doesn’t see any chance for that occurring.
Erdman’s property tax proposal did not pass so now he’s concentrating on a petition drive to put a ballot measure out for voters to decide the issue. He says that’s going well so far.
Erdman says the property tax problem has come about partially because of a tax shift. He says the ballot issue he’s backing does not create a tax increase but rather a change.
Petition gatherers need 85,000 signatures by July 5 to get the measure placed on the November ballot.
