The state panel focused on Whiteclay is moving forward after a Nebraska Supreme Court ruling finally ended alcohol sales there.
State Senator Patty Pansing Brooks of Lincoln is chairing the legislative task force, which met over the weekend.
She says her hope is to bring better health, education, and jobs opportunities to the area.
Pansing Brooks says Whiteclay could be a tourist destination. She says it’s a short drive to Badlands National Park, several major golf courses, and Oglala Lakota College and Historical Center.
Pansing Brooks says now that alcohol sales are over in Whiteclay, the first focus should be on helping those with addictions get treatment and job training.
