STC Reacts to Infrastructure Emphasis in State of the Union

During his State of the Union Speech, President Donald Trump talked about the need to improve the nation’s transportation infrastructure. He also called for passage of the Highway Bill, which is up for re-authorization this year. Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director Mike Steenhoek says that’s needed to give state transportation departments funding certainty. Plus, the bill must address the needs of Rural America.

He says both parties in Congress want infrastructure legislation to move, which is a shift from the partisanship in the impeachment process.

Steenhoek says there’s also an opportunity to get an infrastructure measure approved that calls for a workplan on the Mississippi River. He says that would help in shipping agricultural products to export markets.

Steenhoek says that workplan could come out as soon as the end of this month.
